There is ice coverage of some form along the entire southern lakeshore of Lake Superior from Duluth to Sault Ste. Marie. The exceptions are the eastern edge of the Keewenaw Peninsula and eastward to Grand Maris. For Lake Michigan, the southern half of Green Bay and the Bays De Noc are mostly ice covered and along the north and southwestern shorelines. Fast ice is located around Sault Ste. Marie, across St. Mary's River, and into Saint Martin Bay. Some thin ice is found along the entire Lake Huron shoreline but greater concentrations in Saginaw Bay. Lake St. Clair is entirely ice covered, but fast ice may be limited to the shoreline. The western basin of Lake Erie is substantially iced over, though just like Lake St. Clair, the fast ice is limited to the shoreline and in Sandusky Bay. Slightly below normal temperatures are expected across most of the Great Lakes region through the weekend, fueling moderate growth areawide, though there could be rapid growth across parts of western Lake Superior and northern Lake Michigan. Strong southwest winds, mainly across Lake Superior and northern Lake Michigan, may prevent ice growth on Sunday. Temperatures warm up next week, rising to above normal temperatures on Monday and becoming increasingly warmer Tuesday and Wednesday. In fact, ice growth is expected to slow down dramatically, and some of the area, especially southern Lake Michigan, Lake St. Clair, and Lake Erie, could experience some decay in ice, especially in midweek onward.
