Ice coverage across the Great Lakes remains well below average with about 6.5% total coverage across all of the lakes. There are several areas which do have some limited ice coverage that include portions of Whitefish Bay in Lake Superior. The Bays de Noc and the edges of Green Bay in western Lake Michigan, northern Lake Michigan into the Straits of Mackinac. The far northwestern portions of Lake Huron has some pockets of ice coverage including the St. Mary's river, Thunder Bay, and along with Saginaw Bay. A cold front will move trough the Great Lakes tonight into Saturday. Colder temperatures will promote slow to moderate growth Saturday through early Sunday. High pressure will track southeast and yield a southerly flow across the Great Lakes late Saturday into Sunday. Southwest winds of 20 to 30 knots are possible across the north half of Lake Michigan but no ice movement is expected. Milder temperatures Monday and Tuesday will promote decay of ice formation. A strong cold front is expected to sweep across the Great Lakes late Tuesday into Wednesday. Slow to moderate growth of ice is expected late Wednesday into Thursday.
