In 1920, spring was full of deadly tornadoes to which

April 20th was a major contributor.  That morning, 6

violent F4 variants tore across Mississippi and Alabama

killing 224 and injuring around 1,300.	The deadliest

tornado, an F4, ran a 130-mile long marathon.  It

averaged around one half mile wide as it raced from near

Starkville Mississippi northeast to near Muscle Shoals

Alabama.  It killed 88, nine of them in one family, and

injured around 700.  Scores of homes were leveled or

blown away.  Damage totaled around $2 million.	Most of

the other F4 tornado tracks ranged from 45 to 60 miles

long, and averaged around one quarter mile wide.  In

1901, a record late season snowstorm struck Eastern Ohio

and the Northwest Appalachians.  Akron Ohio set its April

snowfall record with 15.6 inches in 24 hours with a

monthly total of 26.6 inches.  Pittsburgh also set their

April record with 12.7 inches in 24 hours, and 13.5

inches for the month.  Warren Ohio was literally snowed

under by an astonishing 3 feet.
