Monday night, May 6, 2024, a line of severe thunderstorms moved through the KC Metro. There were several embedded mesovortex circulations within the line as it traversed the region and two of these have been confirmed as tornadoes. The first was around 11 PM CDT in northeastern Platte County and the second began in southern Blue Springs and ended in Grain Valley in Jackson County around 1130 PM CDT. Grain Valley had the most significant damage, with damage to a few commercial buildings, with estimated 100 mph winds. The tornado impacted an RV dealership, where several trailers were moved and two were flipped into the ditch near the eastbound lanes of I-70.
