In 2011, an EF4 tornado struck St.  Louis.  It was on

the ground for 22 miles, severely damaged around 20 homes

and left thousands without power.  But most noteworthy,

the tornado hit one terminal at Lambert Airport.  The

damage was so significant, the airport had to be closed

for nearly 24 hours.  Eight aircraft were damaged, two of

which were significant.  In 1944, from the 22nd through

the 24th, the Little Arkansas River wasn't so little.  It

rose to extremely high levels in Wichita, where it

flooded around 2000 homes.  Flooding along the Walnut

River covered much of Winfield.

In 1883, an outbreak of around 15 tornadoes struck the

Deep South, of which 6 were strong or violent.	The 2

most devastating twisters were F4s.  The first F4 had a

track 45 miles long and averaged one half mile wide.  It

tore across Southern Mississippi from 30 miles east of

Natchez to around 30 miles southeast of Jackson.  There

were 56 known fatalities and around 300 injuries.  The

second F4, which had a track 25 miles long and one half

to three quarters of a mile wide, ravaged part of

Southwest Georgia.  The tornado killed 10 people and

injured 80.
