Dry weather will prevail through Monday. Drizzle/light showers are possibly Tuesday morning as the marine layer deepens, but accumulation will be limited to a couple hundredths of an inch, if any. There is increasing potential for an Atmospheric River event for the latter half of next week. Mostly light precipitation could begin as early as Wednesday morning as moisture begins to increase. The notable lack of a strong forcing mechanism should keep rainfall rates on the lighter side. There is a 15 to 20 percent chance of 24 hour rainfall accumulations exceeding 0.25 inches through Wednesday night from the coast the coastal mountain slopes. Best chances of exceeding 0.25 inches are on the coastal slopes due to increased orographic lift. Forecast still looks on track for widespread rain Thursday into Friday. There still remains uncertainty in exact amounts and timing of the heaviest precipitation. There is a 70 to 90 percent chance for 1+ inch of rain to the coasts through the mountains. The moisture associated with this event looks deep enough for precipitation to reach the deserts so there is a near 50 percent chance for rainfall accumulations in Palm Springs to reach or exceed 1 inch. 2+ inches of rain will likely be confined to the coastal slopes and foothills but portions of the northern Inland Empire and Orange County have a 30 to 50 percent chance of seeing over 2 inches as well. There is a 60 to 80 percent chance of local amounts reaching or exceeding 3 inches in the mountains and a 5 to 15 percent chance of reaching or exceeding 5 inches, highest chances on the coastal slopes of the San Bernardino mountains. Snow levels increase from around 5000ft to 7000-8000ft on Wednesday, limiting snowfall to the more remote mountain peaks. $$
