Winds weaken on Thursday with a prevailing north wind in most locations. Some variability in wind direction may be possible later this afternoon west of the James River. Temperatures continue to warm on Friday, and winds will increase slightly. A directional change to the southeast is expected Friday morning, with afternoon gusts of 20 to 30 mph. Greater concerns develop for Saturday as strong winds will develop quickly during the morning and intensify further in the afternoon. Southeast winds sustained up to 30 mph at times, may gust to 50 mph or higher in the afternoon and evening. While relative humidity values may only fall into the upper 30s, we still may see widespread elevated fire weather conditions through the day. A close eye will be had on the afternoon relative humidity, which if it could fall towards 30 percent, may lead to critical fire weather conditions.
