...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS SOUTHERN 

AND WESTERN PUERTO RICO TODAY...



Favorable conditions for fire spread are expected today, 

particularly across the southern coastal plains, southern hills, and 

western Puerto Rico, due to drying soils, available fuels, below-

normal moisture, and breezy to windy conditions. Precipitation has 

been below normal, with some areas reporting 30-day totals as low as 

10-25% below average. While some afternoon showers may develop over 

the southern hills and far southwestern Puerto Rico, they will not 

provide significant wetting rains. Skies will be mostly sunny to 

partly cloudy, with highs in the mid-upper 80s and humidity dropping 

to the low 40s. Peak wind speeds will range from 15-20 mph, with 25-

30 mph gusts. KBDI readings continue to exceed 550 across the area, 

signaling persistent dryness. These conditions will likely support 

fire spread, leading to the issuance of a Fire Danger Statement for 

elevated fire danger risks.



Fire and emergency officials should be aware that weather

conditions are becoming more conducive for the ignition and

spread of wildfires.



Fire danger statements are issued when fire weather conditions

are approaching, but not meeting or exceeding, Red Flag Warning

criteria.
