####018004393#### FNUS63 KFSD 110958 RFDFSD Rangeland Fire Danger Statement National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD 458 AM CDT Thu Apr 11 2024 .DISCUSSION... Issued at 435 AM CDT Thu Apr 11 2024 Continued mild, breezy, and dry conditions this afternoon will lead to elevated to locally critical fire weather. Similar to yesterday, deeper mixing along with a tightening SPG will lead to increasing northwesterly winds with gusts between 35-45 mph starting as early as the late morning. As more dry air gets transported to the surface, dew point will gradually decrease leading to RH values between 20-30 percent with a sharp gradient occurring along a Huron-Sioux Falls-Ida Grove, IA line westwards. With all this in mind, parts of the Fire Weather Watch mainly across portions of southeastern SD, northwestern IA, and far northeastern NE have been converted to a Red Flag Warning since the stronger winds can overcome the slightly higher RH values. However, with cloud cover expected to increase across areas east of the previously mentioned line with the potential precipitation chances this afternoon; decided to leave part of the watch in place just in case further expansion is needed. While Friday will likely provide some temporary relief from any fire weather concerns, elevated fire weather conditions will return on both Saturday and Sunday as the warmer temperatures and breezy southerly winds increase fire danger potential. Limit any activities that could create a spark due to very to extreme fire danger. NEZ013-014-111300- Dixon-Dakota- ...EXTREME FIRE DANGER... The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the extreme category this afternoon. Extreme weather conditions and very low moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that critical burning conditions exist. All fires have the potential to become large and spread quickly, becoming erratic with extreme behavioral characteristics. No outdoor burning should take place. OUTLOOK FOR FRIDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the moderate category. The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed. $$ IAZ012>014-020>022-031-032-SDZ038-050-052>054-057>061-063>071- 111300- Sioux-O'Brien-Clay-Plymouth-Cherokee-Buena Vista-Woodbury-Ida- Beadle-Gregory-Jerauld-Sanborn-Miner-Brule-Aurora-Davison-Hanson- McCook-Charles Mix-Douglas-Hutchinson-Turner-Lincoln-Bon Homme- Yankton-Union- ...VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER...
