####018003228#### FNUS63 KFSD 142054 RFDFSD Rangeland Fire Danger Statement National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD 354 PM CDT Sun Apr 14 2024 .DISCUSSION... Issued at 244 PM CDT Sun Apr 14 2024 High temperatures have warmed to the 70s across the area this afternoon while dew points have fallen to the 20s. This is resulting in widespread relative humidity values down to the teens and 20s. To go along with the low relative humidity, northerly winds have been gusting up to 20-30 mph, strongest east of I-29. With an overlap of breezy winds and low humidity, very high fire danger will persist through the rest of the afternoon hours before temperatures begin to cool and winds wane this evening. Very high fire danger is expected to prevail across the region Monday as breezy southeasterly winds cause relative humidity values to fall into the lower 20s. Gusts during this time look to range between 30 to 40 MPH, with perhaps a few isolated gusts as high as 45 MPH. Thus, with dry fuels still in place, have decided to issue a Fire Weather Watch for portions southeastern South Dakota, northeastern Nebraska, northwestern Iowa, and southwest Minnesota after collaboration with neighbors. We strongly encourage you to exercise caution with any activity that may cause a spark, as fires can spread quickly under these conditions! Widespread showers and storms will dominate the forecast Monday night through early Wednesday. Drier weather may return late in the week, but breezy, cooler spring weather comes back as well. Exercise caution during off road use of your vehicle as the catalytic converter can start wildfires.
