...River Statement For The Tallapoosa River...



.Heavy rainfall during the past 48 hours is producing rises on the 

Tallapoosa River. However, levels are expected to remain below 

established flood stages, and any overflow along the river should be 

of minor nature.





The Tallapoosa River at Milstead.

* At 8:30 AM CDT Saturday the stage was 21.4 feet.

* Action stage is 15.0 feet.

* Flood stage is 40.0 feet.

* Forecast...The river has crested and is expected to fall below 15 

  feet Sunday morning.

* Impact...At 25.0 feet...Considerable low land flooding occurs. 

  Livestock should be moved to higher ground.





The Tallapoosa River at The Tallapoosa Water Plant.

* At 8:15 AM CDT Saturday the stage was 19.1 feet.

* Action stage is 15.0 feet.

* Flood stage is 25.0 feet.

* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 19.5 feet 

  this afternoon and fall below 15 feet late Sunday afternoon.

* Impact...At 15.0 feet...Low areas near the junction with the Coosa 

  River begin to overflow. Extensive flooding of low lying areas 

  begins between US 231 and the river at stages of 15 to 25 feet.





Another statement will be issued by Sunday morning, or sooner if 

conditions warrant.

It is emphasized that these forecasts are based on rainfall that has 

already occurred and on additional rainfall expected during the next 

48 hours.  If more rainfall than is currently forecast occurs it may 

become necessary to revise these forecasts upward.
