Blizzard Warnings are in effect for eastern South Dakota, far northeastern Nebraska, much of Iowa, northwestern Illinois, parts of central and northern Wisconsin, and central Michigan. Winter Storm Warnings are in effect from the Central Plains to the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes region. High Wind Warnings are in effect for parts of the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys, the Appalachians, and the Northeast. Wind Advisories are in effect from the Southern Plains to the Southeast and up through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings and advisories, please see www.weather.gov At 800 AM CST...A surface low with a minimum pressure of 993 mb (29.32 inHg) was positioned over south-central Missouri with its attendant cold front draped to the southwest over western Arkansas and eastern Texas and a stationary front extending east into southern Illinois, Indiana, and northern Kentucky. An occluded frontal system was closeby, with the central low of 994 (29.35 inHG) located in northeast Arkansas. Its associated cold front draped southward through central Louisiana and its warm front extended southeast from southeast Arkansas to the Alabama boot heel. Organized lines and clusters of thunderstorms were moving east-northeast ahead of the leading front across the Gulf states, Mid-Mississippi Valley into the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys. Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible through Saturday morning as storms sweep across the Deep South, Southeast, and southern Mid-Atlantic regions. Within the cold sector of this system moderate to heavy snow, possibly a wintry mix, will blanket the Midwest, Great Lakes, and Northeast. Wind speeds will likely increase in response to the low deepening along its trek across the country causing blowing and drifting snow and blizzard-like conditions that will impede travel and other daily activities.
