There were two central lows associated with the system, one located just west of Cape Cod with a minimum pressure of 1000 mb and one located south of Long Island with a minimum pressure of 998 mb. A cold front extended south from the southern low over the western Atlantic, and a stationary front extended northeast from the northern low along the New England coast. National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated widespread moderate to heavy precipitation was falling across New England. Precipitation was falling as rain in eastern Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island and as wintry mixed precipitation and snow in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Heavy precipitation (mainly snow, sleet, and freezing rain) will remain a threat through the overnight hours. There is a high probability (70-95%) that an additional 6 inches or more of snow will fall in central and northern Maine, and there will likely be additional ice accumulations up to one tenth of an inch in southern and eastern Maine.
