####018023650#### ACUS45 KWBC 161516 SCCNS5 Storm Summary Number 11 for Coast-to-Coast Winter Storm System NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 900 AM CST Fri Dec 16 2022 ...Winter storm continues tracking through Northern Plains, Midwest, and Northeast, bringing a wide variety of winter precipitation to a large portion of the country... Blizzard Warnings are in effect for the northern High Plains. Winter Storm Warnings are in effect over portions of the northern High Plains, interior Northeast, and New England. High Wind Warnings are in effect for portions of western Nebraska and southeastern Wyoming. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for portions of the Northern Plains, Upper Midwest, and interior Northeast. Winter Storm Watches are in effect for portions of upper New England. For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings and advisories, please see www.weather.gov At 800 AM CST...A potent, gradually weakening 993 mb low pressure area remains centered over eastern Minnesota this morning, while a strengthening lead coastal low analyzed at 998 mb just off the New Jersey coast is deepening into the main surface low as it tracks northeast along the coast. Surface observations and Doppler radar suggest widespread blizzard to near-blizzard conditions are ongoing over much of the Northern Plains, as moderate to heavy snowfall and sustained winds exceeding 35 mph continue over the Dakotas, into northern Nebraska and Minnesota. To the south and east of this surface low, light to moderate snowfall is continuing over portions of Iowa, northern Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula, an area that has seen significant snowfall accumulations so far. Meanwhile, east of the Ohio Valley, surface observations and regional radar mosaic imagery depict a transition zone from moderate to locally heavy rainfall and snowfall over the interior Northeast and coastal New England owing to a complex surface pattern with multiple fronts overhead. ...Selected preliminary Storm Total Snowfall in inches from 700 AM CST Sun Dec 11 through 800 AM CST Fri Dec 16... ...CONNECTICUT... CHIEF LAKE 5 ENE 0.30 DORCHESTER 0.20 MARSHFIELD 0.20 S PLOVER 0.20 STETSONVILLE 0.10 Blizzard conditions are expected to persist today over the Northern Plains/Upper Midwest, before winds fall below blizzard criteria as the aforementioned overhead low weakens. Precipitation will gradually dissipate as the Midwest low weakens, with additional snowfall accumulations of up to a few inches expected across the northern Plains. Precipitation types will be kept to mostly rain and snow, as the vertical temperature profile does not seem to support mixed precipitation across the Northeast. Heavy snowfall activity with this system should focus over portions of Upstate New York into Northern New England through Sunday, where max snowfall totals may approach 2 feet in the Catskill and Adirondack mountains of New York. As a result of multiple days of snow, blowing snow, and freezing rain across a broad swath of the country, travel may become dangerous or impossible at times, so be sure to refer to WPC or your local NWS office to access the latest forecasts and learn about potential impacts to your area. The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction Center at 900 PM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather Service office for additional information on this event.
