The government of Honduras has discontinued the Tropical Storm Watch for the Pacific coast of Honduras. SUMMARY OF WATCHES AND WARNINGS IN EFFECT: A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for... * Entire coast of El Salvador A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, in this case over the next 6 to 12 hours. For storm information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your national meteorological service. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1000 AM CDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Pilar was located near latitude 12.5 North, longitude 90.5 West. Pilar is moving toward the west near 7 mph (11 km/h). A faster west- southwestward motion is expected by tonight, and that motion should continue into Saturday. On the forecast track, the center of Pilar will be moving away from the coast of Central America later today and tonight. Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts. Some gradual weakening is forecast during the next couple of days. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 996 mb (29.42 inches). The additional rainfall will likely produce flash and urban flooding, along with mudslides in areas of higher terrain. SURF: Swells generated by Pilar are expected to continue affecting the Pacific coast of Central America during the next couple of days. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.
