Pre- frontal storm force winds of 50 to 55 kts tonight will blow parallel to the outer coast from Cape Fairweather north, with 40 kt winds extending down to the Dixon Entrance. A wind shift to the southwest will occur mid day Wednesday with most of the eastern Gulf experiencing 40 to 50 kts through Wednesday evening. These on-shore winds will generate seas of 30 ft or possibly even higher and a southwest swell. Areas most vulnerable to these conditions will be Yakutat Bay, Cross Sound, Sitka Sound, and the ocean entrances of southern Chatham Strait and western Sumner Strait. Peak conditions will, however, coincide with low tide, so coastal storm surge flooding is considered unlikely at this time. $$
