...River Statement For The Tombigbee River...

.Heavy rainfall during the past 24 hours is producing rises on the 
Tombigbee River. The latest forecast calls for a crest one foot 
below flood stage Saturday evening before starting a steady fall. 
Any overflow along the river should be of minor nature.


The Tombigbee River at Gainesville Lock and Dam.
* At 8:00 PM CST Friday the stage was 96.1 feet.
* Action stage is 101.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 101.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 100.0 feet 
  Saturday evening and then begin to fall.
* Impact...At 101.0 feet...Flooding of low lying agricultural and 
  wooded lands in the area occurs.

Another statement will be issued by Saturday evening, or sooner if 
conditions warrant.

later statements concerning this event.

It is emphasized that these forecasts are based on rainfall that has 
already occurred and on additional rainfall expected during the next 
48 hours.  If more rainfall than is currently forecast occurs it may 
become necessary to revise these forecasts upward.
