At 430 AM Thursday Salt River Project officials indicated that 649 cubic feet per second (cfs) of water was currently flowing over Granite Reef Dam into the Salt River. The flow over Granite Reef may soon be sufficient to cause impacts downstream along the Salt River. This will primarily affect the low water grade crossings at Gilbert and McKellips roads in Mesa as well as other unbridged road crossings downstream particularly in southeast Phoenix and the west valley. Increases in the amount of water flowing downstream over Granite Reef Dam could occur in the next few days should changes in runoff necessitate additional releases by the Salt River Project from Bartlett Dam. If you have any interests along the Salt River especially along low lying areas take necessary precautions and remain alert for increases in the river level. Remember be a smart motorist and do not drive through water of unknown depth. The water may be deeper and stronger than you think. $$
