A kona low is expected to gradually develop west of the state during the next few days, increasing southerly flow and bringing a moist and unstable airmass into the islands. Confidence has increased that flash flooding may pose a threat to life and property over the western islands of Niihau, Kauai, and Oahu, where a Flood Watch is now in effect beginning at 6 AM Tuesday morning. The Flood Watch may need to be expanded to include Maui County and the Big Island on Wednesday and Thursday. This will be the final Hydrologic Outlook issued for this event. Further hydrologic threat information will be covered by flash flood watches, flash flood warnings and flood advisories as conditions warrant.
