The melting of the snow cover across much of the area has saturated the ground. The saturated soil moisture has made the area more susceptible to flooding. Periods of rain, some heavy at times, will move into the region late Wednesday with the heaviest rainfall Wednesday night through Thursday evening. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are expected across the Plateau, southeast Tennessee, and southwest North Carolina with 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches for much of central east Tennessee and parts of northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia. The main impact will be the potential of river and stream flooding, roadway flooding, and flooding of low lying areas. Mud slides are also possible. The greatest concern for river flooding will be for the Sequatchie river and South Chickamauga creek. There is still uncertainty on the timing of heaviest rainfall and exact amounts over the next couple of days. However, confidence is increasing for the potential of flooding. We will continue to monitor the situation and will issue more information as the system approaches. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio and other local media for further details, updates, and potential watches that may be issued for your area. $$ $$ DH
