 Where: Salmon River 8 to 13 miles north of Salmon

When: During the second half of January, particularly once air 
temperatures warm near freezing

What: Recent sub zero temperatures have allowed river ice to develop 
within the Salmon River just north of Salmon, Idaho. Trained river 
spotters have noted two distinct areas of ice build-up: near 8 miles 
north of Salmon, and near 12 miles north of Salmon. The continuation 
of sub zero temperatures and the eventual warm-up over the next 
couple of weeks will allow river ice to move around and may quickly 
jam up water flow, resulting in lowland flooding.

More information will be provided as river ice continues to 
proliferate and temperatures begin to warm.
