Then, rising river and stream water levels this week. * WHERE...Southern Montana and northern Wyoming. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A powerful storm system will impact the area through Monday night. Precipitation amounts of 2 to 3 inches are expected over the mountains and along the southern foothills with locally higher amounts possible. This moisture will cause rises on rivers and streams this week. Additionally, there will likely be significant ponding of water in fields and low lying areas close to the foothills. Heavy wet snow will fall in the mountains above 8000 feet...impacting outdoor recreation and the Beartooth Highway. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Activities in the high country will be severely impacted by heavy wet snow and cooler than normal temps through tonight. People along small creeks and streams, espcially in and near the foothills, should be prepared for rising waer levels later this week.
