FXHW01 KWNH 250710 PMDHI Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 309 AM EDT Thu Apr 25 2024 Valid 00Z Fri Apr 26 2024 - 00Z Fri May 3 2024 The subtropical high that will initially to the north of the state around 30-35N will shift to the northeast by this weekend. East-northeasterly trade winds are expected to veer more to the east or east-southeast as the high retreats and a col develops within the subtropical ridge axis. The ensemble guidance has trended stronger with an inverted trough and potential closed low in the vicinity of the far northwestern Islands by Monday. This pattern will favor precipitation chances each day for the favored east-facing terrain, and conditions will remain mainly dry for southwestern portions of the Islands. The aforementioned trough over the far northwestern Islands and its accompanying surface front will likely be blocked by the subtropical ridge and remain northwest of the state, keeping the most impactful weather well offshore through at least the middle of next week.
