A strong low pressure system with an associated cold front will bring strong winds, large seas, and the potential for strong thunderstorms to the coastal waters beginning this morning. Any thunderstorm that forms will be capable of producing erratic, locally gale force winds and rough seas, dangerous lightning, heavy rainfall with reduced visibility, and waterspouts. The cold front passage will bring widespread southwest gale force winds for the northern coastal waters. Local gale force gusts are expected over the remaining waters prior to the frontal passage. Seas will also increase significantly, ranging from 10 to 18 feet for the waters off the Central Coast, and 6 to 10 feet for the inner waters south of Point Conception. Conditions will be exceptionally dangerous for all but the largest vessels. Lightning, heavy rain, gales, low visibility and steep, choppy seas will make navigation difficult, and may damage and or capsize vessels. Boaters are strongly advised to remain in safe harbor. $$ Phillips/RAT
