Significant river rises and higher than normal water levels are possible in localized areas on small streams and rivers that are still open. Fazil ice formation associated with the cold temperatures has the the potential to form small ice dams. IMPACTS: Ice dams and high water has been observed on Chester Creek and Ship Creek and can be expected on other streams throughout the region that still have sections of open water. Monitor your local streams and be prepared for high water associated with these colder temperatures. These conditions will persist until streams have formed a stable ice cover or temperatures warm back to normal for this time of year. COMMENTS: High water will be very localized and difficult to pin point where these conditions will occur. The main messsage would be for partners and the public to monitor local conditions especially at known trouble spots. $$
