The Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center in Mammoth Lakes
has issued a Backcountry Avalanche Warning for the
following areas: the Eastern Sierra in Mono County and
the Eastern Sierra in Inyo County

* WHAT...Avalanche Danger has risen to HIGH at all elevations this
  morning. Very dangerous avalanche conditions are expected at
  least through Saturday, 3/2/24.

* WHERE...The eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain range
  between Virginia Lakes to the north to Bishop Creek to the
  south.

* WHEN...In effect from Sat 07:00 PST to Sun 07:00 PST.

* IMPACTS...Intense snowfall and strong winds are overloading the
  snowpack, which contains buried weak layers. Expect widespread
  areas of unstable snow. Backcountry travel will be difficult and
  dangerous.

* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Very dangerous avalanche
  conditions. Travel in and below avalanche terrain is not 
  recommended. Avalanches may run long distances and can run into 
  mature forests, valley floors, or flat terrain.
