WTUS82 KCHS 080914 HLSCHS SCZ044-045-050-052-081015- Tropical Storm Debby Local Statement Advisory Number 24 National Weather Service Charleston SC AL042024 514 AM EDT Thu Aug 8 2024 This product covers southeast South Carolina and southeast Georgia **DEBBY DEPARTS BUT CONSIDERABLE FLOODING PERSISTS** NEW INFORMATION --------------- * CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - All watches and warnings have been canceled * CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - None * STORM INFORMATION: - About 30 miles north-northeast of Charleston SC or about 110 miles northeast of Savannah GA - 33.2N 79.7W - Storm Intensity 50 mph - Movement Northwest or 325 degrees at 5 mph SITUATION OVERVIEW ------------------ Considerable flooding continues as Tropical Storm Debby slowly moves away from the area today. Continue to monitor the latest flood forecasts and warnings from NWS Charleston as main stem river flooding persists for an extended period of time. Tropical Storm Debby made landfall near Bulls Bay around 2 AM this morning and continues to move inland today. Tropical storm force winds are concentrated on the east side of the storm, no longer posing a threat to the Charleston Tri-County area, and all Tropical Storm Warnings have been cancelled. POTENTIAL IMPACTS ----------------- * FLOODING RAIN: Additional impacts from ongoing flooding is still a concern across southeast South Carolina and southeast Georgia. Remain well guarded against dangerous flood waters having further impacts of significant potential. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS ---------------------------------- * EVACUATIONS: Follow the advice of local officials. * OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION: Do not attempt to return to evacuated areas until local authorities give the all clear. Allow time for officials to inspect bridges and overpasses and to mark washed-out roads. Be alert for potential flooding from rising rivers and streams which may have yet to crest. Remain informed of the latest river forecasts and heed any flood watches and warnings. Be alert for flooded roads which could be compromised or littered with debris. Avoid travel until water levels subside and roads have been cleared. Do not drive through places where flood waters cover the road.
