The National Weather Service in Norton has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Northwestern Tolland County in northern Connecticut...
  Southeastern Hampden County in western Massachusetts...
  Southeastern Hampshire County in western Massachusetts...

* Until 715 PM EDT.

* At 318 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing 
  heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.5 and 3 inches of 
  rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are 
  possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected 
  to begin shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Rapid rises on small creeks and streams, as well as
           flash flooding of urban areas, highways, streets and
           underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-
           lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Springfield, Ludlow, East Longmeadow, Ellington, Tolland, 
  Belchertown, Wilbraham, Palmer, Stafford, Somers, Ware, Monson, 
  Granby, Willington, Hampden, Warren, Brimfield, Wales and Union.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are 
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded 
roads. Find an alternate route.
