The National Weather Service in Billings has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Central Golden Valley County in central Montana...

* Until 1115 PM MDT.

* At 802 PM MDT, local law enforcement reported thunderstorms 
  producing heavy rain in Ryegate. Radar estimates between 1.5 and 3 
  inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 
  inches are possible in the warned area over the next hour. Flash 
  flooding is already occurring.

  HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms
           producing flash flooding.

  SOURCE...Law enforcement reported flash flooding in Ryegate and
           flooding of streams and creeks across central Golden
           Valley county.

  IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
           urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Ryegate, Lavina and Franklin.

An irrigation dam above Ryegate is reported by the sheriff to be in 
danger of rupturing. If this dam ruptures, significant additional
water will flow through the town of Ryegate.

This includes the following streams and drainages...
  Ninemile Creek, Fish Creek, Musselshell River, Swimming Woman 
  Creek, Rock Creek, Fivemile Creek, Big Coulee Creek, Merrills 
  Springs Creek, Currant Creek and Careless Creek.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles. Do not drive on or attempt to cross 
flooded roads, find an alternate route. Roads and driveways may be 
damaged or washed out in places.

Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 
dangers of flooding.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are 
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded 
roads. Find an alternate route.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency officials and 
request they pass the information to the National Weather Service in 
Billings.
