National Weather Service Wilmington NC
1104 AM EDT Thu Aug 8 2024

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Southern Dillon County in northeastern South Carolina...
  Florence County in northeastern South Carolina...
  Northwestern Horry County in northeastern South Carolina...
  Marion County in northeastern South Carolina...
  Northwestern Williamsburg County in northeastern South Carolina...

* Until 200 PM EDT.

* At 1104 AM EDT, emergency management reported flash flooding
  across the warned area. Between 6 and 11 inches of rain have
  fallen. Flash flooding is already occurring.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

  SOURCE...Emergency management reported.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Despite the
           heaviest rain coming to an end, previously flooded
           areas are draining into nearby creeks and swamps. Law
           enforcement and emergency management agencies are
           reporting flooded roadways across much of the warned
           area. Low areas and drainage basins will also flood,
           even after rain has come to an end. If you encounter a
           flooded roadway, Turn Around, Don't Drown!

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Florence, Marion, Dillon, Lake City, Mullins, Kingstree,
  Johnsonville, Latta, Pamplico, Lake View, Sellers, Hyman,
  Friendfield, Claussen, Evergreen, Hannah, Gresham, Kingsburg,
  Francis Marion University and Poston.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause dangerous flooding,
especially near creeks and streams, drainage ditches, and low-lying
flood prone areas. Turn around, don't drown if you encounter a
flooded road. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Stay away from
storm drains, culverts, creeks, and streams. Water levels can rise
rapidly and sweep you away.
