...FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 1145 AM EDT THIS MORNING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...Portions of northern Connecticut, including the following 
  county, Windham and Rhode Island, including the following 
  counties, Kent, Newport, Providence and Washington.

* WHEN...Until 1145 AM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying 
  and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams 
  continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. 
  Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be 
  passable.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 848 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges
    indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is
    ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area.
    Between 2 and 7 inches of rain have fallen.
  - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in
    the warned area.
  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...
    Warwick, Coventry, South Kingstown, West Warwick, Mansfield,
    North Kingstown, Windham, Newport, Plainfield, Westerly,
    Killingly, Southbridge, Burrillville, Narragansett, East
    Greenwich, Scituate, Glocester, Putnam, Thompson and
    Sturbridge.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become 
unstable and unsafe.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are 
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded 
roads. Find an alternate route.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law 
enforcement and request they pass this information to the National 
Weather Service when you can do so safely.
