...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM EDT THIS MORNING...

* WHAT...Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive 
  rainfall continues.

* WHERE...Portions of central and south central Virginia, including 
  the following counties and independent city, in central Virginia, 
  Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell and City of Lynchburg. 
  In south central Virginia, Bedford.

* WHEN...Until 1000 AM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying 
  and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads 
  remain closed due to flooding. Expect many areas of slow moving or 
  standing water. It will take several hours for all the water from 
  these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 658 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges
    indicated light to moderate showers. Flooding is ongoing.
    Between 2 and 6 inches of rain have fallen.
  - This includes the following streams and drainages...
    Abbott Branch, Bear Garden Creek, Bear Creek, Back Creek,
    Appomattox River, Allens Creek, Alabama Creek and Bear
    Branch.
    Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in
    the warned area.
  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...
    Lynchburg, Buckingham, Bedford, Altavista, Amherst,
    Appomattox and Brookneal.
  - This includes the following locations...
    Liberty University, The National D-Day Memorial and Lynchburg
    Airport.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become 
unstable and unsafe.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding, 
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather 
Service by calling toll free at 1...8 6 6...2 1 5...4 3 2 4. Reports
