Confidence is increasing in accumulating wintry precipitation over portions of Arkansas around Friday and Friday Night. The combination of a rather potent storm system and unseasonably cold Arctic air will increase the likelihood of accumulating sleet and snow over northwest Arkansas beginning Friday morning. Rain is expected over the remainder of the state initially. Much colder air will move into Arkansas during the day, with precipitation mixing with sleet or snow by late afternoon over the higher terrain of the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains. Late in the afternoon or early Friday evening, coverage of precipitation will diminish from west to east as much colder and drier air moves in. While the likelihood of accumulating wintry precipitation is highest over northwest Arkansas, a changeover is not out of the question over the remainder of the state before completely ending after midnight. By Saturday morning, temperatures are expected to fall into the teens in northern and western Arkansas, with 20s over the remainder of the area. Single-digit wind chills will be possible in the hours around sunrise over northern Arkansas. Temperatures will gradually moderate through the weekend, though the possibility of additional hard freezes can not be ruled out into mid and late March. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts and outlooks from your NWS office for the most up to date information concerning potentially impactful Winter weather later this week. $$ 57
