The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
  Northwestern St. Bernard Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
  Orleans Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
  North central Jefferson Parish in southeastern Louisiana...

* Until 645 PM CDT.

* At 621 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
  extending from 8 miles northwest of New Orleans to near Metairie,
  moving southeast at 40 mph.

  HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include...
  New Orleans, Metairie, Chalmette, East New Orleans, Belle Chasse,
  Gretna, Lake Catherine, Violet, Meraux, Arabi, Poydras, and
  Lakefront Airport.

This includes the following Interstates...
 Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 228 and 234, and
between mile markers 236 and 256.
 Interstate 510 between mile markers 1 and 3.
 Interstate 610 between mile markers 1 and 4.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

Wind damage with these storms will occur before any rain or
lightning. Do not wait for the sound of thunder before taking cover.
SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY inside a sturdy structure and stay away from
windows.

If on or near Lake Pontchartrain or Lake Borgne, get away from the 
water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can 
strike out to 15 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear 
thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to 
safe shelter now!  Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
