Flash Flood Warning
National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC
1032 PM EDT TUE MAY 29 2018
...FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY FOR MCDOWELL COUNTY INCLUDING THE CITIES
OF MARION AND OLD FORT...
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
McDowell County in western North Carolina...
* Until 430 AM EDT Wednesday.
* At 1025 PM EDT, emergency management reported additional heavy
rain moving into the warned area causing significant impacts
county wide. Flash flooding and landslides are already occurring.
This is a FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY for McDowell County, including the
cities of Marion and Old Fort. This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS
SITUATION. SEEK HIGHER GROUND NOW!
* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Marion, Old Fort, Lake James State Park, Lake James, Nebo, Pleasant
Gardens, Glenwood, Ashford, Woodlawn and Sugar Hill.
Emergency management reports numerous areas of flash flooding and
landslides across the county. Roads have been closed and swift water
rescues are underway. County services are being stretched to the
limit. Persons are requested to not travel unless escaping flood
waters.
Interstate 40 is closed near Old Fort. Highway 70 at Old Fort is
also closed. All campgrounds along the Catawba River have been
evacuated and significant flooding is occurring along the river.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Move to higher ground NOW. This is an extremely dangerous and
life-threatening situation. Do NOT attempt to travel unless you are
fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order.
Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Do not attempt to cross
water-covered roadways, bridges, or low-level crossings. Only a few
inches of rapidly flowing water can carry away your vehicle. It is
not worth the risk. Please TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Runoff from heavy rain into creeks and streams will cause sudden
increases in water levels and flows, even in areas where rainfall has
been light or nonexistent. Hikers, campers and other individuals
outdoors must immediately seek high ground and avoid all streams.
The additional heavy rain will increase the risk of landslides,
especially in areas where slides have occurred in the past. Be
especially alert if you are near a stream, especially at the base of
a mountain or in a cove. Watch for loose-moving soil and rocks or a
sudden increase in streamflow. Leave the area quickly if this is
observed. When driving along roads where the terrain is steep or
rocky, watch and listen for falling rocks, mud, trees and other
debris.
When it is safe to do so, please report flood waters or landslides
flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather
Service by calling toll free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, by posting on
our Facebook page, or via Twitter using hashtag NWSGSP. Your message
should describe the event and the specific location where it
occurred, including roadways, nearby cross streets, stream names and
other landmarks.

Flash Flood Warning
National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC
1113 PM EDT TUE MAY 29 2018
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Yancey County in western North Carolina...
* Until 515 AM EDT Wednesday.
* At 1110 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
heavy rain falling across the warned area. Flash flooding is likely
occurring or will begin shortly. Landslides are also possible.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Burnsville, Mount Mitchell State Park, Ramseytown, Busick,
Micaville, Green Mountain, Celo, Swiss, B.R. Parkway-Craggy To
Little Switzerland and Poplar.
The river gauge along the South Toe River near Celo was at 9.3 feet.
At 8 feet, side roads along the river will begin to flood along
Highway 80 south near the river. At 10 feet, Seven Mile Road and
Bridge will begin to flood.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED
Flash Flood Warning
National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC
452 AM EDT WED MAY 30 2018
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Rutherford County in western North Carolina...
* Until 1045 AM EDT.
* At 445 AM EDT, although heavy rainfall has ended across Rutherford
County, streams continue to rise and dam releases continue at Lake
Lure causing impacts to roads, residences, and low-lying areas
downstream. Evacuations remain in effect for areas along and
downstream of Lake Lure and all persons are strongly encouraged to
heed all evacuation orders and barricades to protect life.
Therefore, a new Flash Flood Warning has been issued to allow
floodwaters to crest and begin to recede through the morning hours.
* Additional rainfall of 1-2 inches is possible during the next 6-12
hours which may exacerbate ongoing flooding or cause new flooding
to develop. Exercise extreme caution near streams and other low-
lying areas and be prepared to seek higher ground immediately.
* Some locations that may experience flooding include...
Forest City, Rutherfordton, Spindale, Ellenboro, Bostic, Chimney
Rock State Park, Cliffside, Green Hill, Thermal City and Henrietta.
* Excessive rainfall over the warned area may cause additional mud
slides near steep terrain. The mud slide can consist of rock, mud,
vegetation and other loose materials.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Leave the area quickly if this is
observed. When driving along roads where the terrain is steep or
rocky, watch and listen for falling rocks, mud, trees and other
debris.

Flash Flood Warning
National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC
654 AM EDT WED MAY 30 2018
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Rabun County in northeastern Georgia...
* Until 1245 PM EDT Wednesday.
* At 645 AM EDT, high water on the Tallulah River due to heavy
rainfall of 2-4 inches over the past 24 hours inches has prompted
Georgia Power to release extra water from Lake Burton Dam, Lake
Rabun/Mathis Dam, Tallulah Falls Lake and Dam and Lake Tugalo
Dam. These releases, combined with the preexisting high water
especially on Tiger Creek, is causing rapid rises downstream
of Mathis Dam. Floodwaters have closed Shady Lane
and closures may be required shortly along Joy Bridge Road.
* Elsewhere across the county, minor flooding of several
secondary roads is ongoing, necessitating notification as people
begin their morning commutes. Please avoid all flooded
roadways and Turn Around, Don't Drown.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Clayton, Mountain City, Tiger, Dillard, Sky Valley, Lake Rabun,
Lake Burton, Moccasin Creek State Park, Lakemont and Tallulah Gorge
State Park. Shady Lane, Joy Bridge Road, Mathis Dam Road, and
Old 441 may all be impacted and portions of these roads may be
flooded. Campgrounds and other low-lying areas along the Tallulah
River between Lake Burton and the Tallulah Gorge may experience
rapid rises and flash flooding.
* The excessive rainfall over the warned area has caused numerous
mud slides and additional mud slides are possible near steep
terrain. The mud slide can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and
other loose materials and are very powerful.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
In hilly and mountainous terrain, there are hundreds of low-water
crossings which can be dangerous in heavy rain. Low-water crossings
can be submerged by flood waters quickly and without warning. Never
attempt to travel across flooded crossings. Find an alternate route.
It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles
away.
Please pay close attention to road signs indicating a flood-prone
area. Obey all barricades, even if water is not currently over the
road. Barricades are in place for your protection and indicate areas
where flooding can occur rapidly and without warning.
When it is safe to do so, please report flood waters or landslides
flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather
Service by calling toll free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, by posting on
